Nice hotel. Great location between independencia and the malecon, on the next street is a large hotel. Check in was fast and easy, room was clean with air conditioning and fan. Basic room, small balcony with a view, the sea can be seen. Food smelled good. Easy parking on the street. No problem with lights. Well lit. I have been to Dominican Republic 14 times for vacations. I have stayed at the Jaragua, as well as Barcelo Capella and others in Bavaro and Puerto Plata. The front desk was manned by a tall young man, basketball player, very polite. Came back to the hotel very late in the evening, no problem getting in. There is an outdoor jacuzzi on the third floor. Nice place, no hassles, friendly staff. If you want luxury, then pay over a hundred dollars a night for the hilton, embajador or jaragua. For the price this hotel is fine.

Why not? When I arrived the hostel did not have my reservation, nor had they received my deposit. They said the rates advertised on the website were incorrect and theres were higher. I ended up paying more than hostelbookers informed me I would, and the faciliteis were not the same as advertised either. There is no onsite laundry. I believe either the hostel or hostelbookers is responsible for false advertising and I feel that a partial re-inbursement for my extra expenses would be necessary for me to change my bad impression of both the hostel and hostelbookers. As things stand I will never recommend this site, as it has £50 pounds of mine that never got to my hostel - nor did my details. In a foreign country where I spoke little of the language I could have been put in an extremely difficult position. I hope that this reaches the appropriate authoritys so that these errors can be corrected immediately, and that they are taken very seriously.

Why not? I must qualify the response. My only problem was that the rate that hostelbookers quoted me was not given by the hotel. When I arrived (Dec. 6), the credit card machine was broken, so I agreed to pay later. The machine was "broken" all weekend, when I went to pay, they charged me $140 USD for 4 nights, not the $120 CDN (less the $12 hostelbookers fee) that I was quoted by hostelbookers. And the guy didn't give me a bill....it was 3:30 am Dec. 10 when I left, his name was Gregoire...his English not very good.

Why not? It is full of hookers and you can take them to your room(wee didnt). They tried to rip from about 150 USD when we left and called the armed sec. guy to helped calculating the price when we did´t want to pay that much

I stayed at the Maison Gautreaux from Feb. 14-19th, 2008. I did my research on this property and the many positive reviews on TripAdvisor is what made me decide to stay, and I'm glad I did.
The hotel itself is charming in a tropical but old world sort of way; with tile floor, wrought iron gates, and private and public balconies. The rooms are charming and clean. The a/c worked well and the bathrooms were nice sized. Nice touches like the safety box and fridge made it seem like a much more expensive property. (my room was $45/nt)
The staff was very friendly and accomodating, especially Mery,
Reymondo and Emilio. They have a continental breakfast with the best cafe con leche. They're trying knew things such as grilling out in the evening and can even pick you up at the airport if you like. They really seem to care about their guest's well being. I felt very secure at the hotel with the 24 hour security.
I definetly recommend this hotel for singles or couples and will return in the future.

Hello Juan:

I have arrived back at my home safely this past Friday. Thank you very much for a wonderful experience at the Hotel. I really enjoyed my vacation. Unfortunately, I became sick on the last night in Santo Domingo. I believe that I ate some food that was contaminated. I am doing much better now.

I had to work this past Saturday and Sunday. However, I do have today off and I am relaxing at home.

The weather is very cold and we have much snow on the ground. I really miss Santo Domingo.

I have already posted a lengthy reveiw on TripAdvisor. It should be ready for viewing within the next day or so. Please tell your entire staff that I said hello and thank them for me for making my recent trip a sucess.

My compliments to you for choosing Pablo as your Operations Manager. He will do a fine job making improvements to your hotel. I really enjoyed the service that he provided me.

He llegado atrás en mi hogar sin peligro este el viernes pasado. Gracias tanto para una experiencia maravillosa en el Hotel. Gocé realmente mis vacaciones. Desgraciadamente, yo me enfermé en el anoche en Santo Domingo. Creo que comí algún alimento que fue contaminado. Hago mejor ahora.

Tuve que trabajar este el sábado pasados y el domingo. Sin embargo, yo tengo hoy lejos y yo me relajo en casa.

El tiempo es muy frío y tenemos mucha nieve en el suelo. Pierdo realmente Santo Domingo.

Yo ya he anunciado un reveiw largo en TripAdvisor. Debe estar listo para ver dentro de al día siguiente por ahí. Diga por favor su personal entero que dije hola y los da gracias para mí para hacer mi viaje reciente un sucess.

Mis cumplidos a usted para escoger Pablo como su Director de Operaciones. El hará un trabajo fino que hace las mejoras a su hotel. Yo realmente enjoyed el service que él me proporcionó.
